CATHOLIC?
LOST TOUCH? WITH GOD?
WITH THE PARISH COMMUNITY?
KIT’s aim is to contact, welcome and keep in touch
with all local Catholics, whether or not they go to church, through
home visits and small group meetings.
Lay led groups of up to 10 people, including
church-going and non church-going Catholics, meet for 7-8 weeks. Here
you can ask questions, deal with difficulties and learn about today’s
church in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, without commitment.

More about KIT
“I very much want to be a part of this”. “The
first KIT meeting I have attended and I would be happy to start a
group”. These are just some of the comments at the end of a busy
workshop on Saturday, 8th November

40 people, including representatives from all six
Parishes in the 3 rivers’ pastoral area, enjoyed a full day together
in St Edward the Confessor’s church in Chandler’s Ford, including a
delicious lunch which was greatly appreciated by all. The day was
enriched by the presence of 12 members from the Romsey and North
Baddesley KIT team, including 2 Catholics who have recently returned
to the Sacraments. They were able to share their experience of home
visiting and small group meetings whilst their parish priest, Father
George Lyons, spoke movingly of the need to offer support and
welcome to all who come to our churches.

KIT’s aim is to involve the whole parish in reaching out to, welcoming and
keeping in touch with all local Catholics, whether or not they go to church. It
was started in 2005 in the Portsmouth diocese as one offshoot of “Growing
Together in Christ”. The programme includes home visiting and small group
meetings for those who wish to explore today’s Church and their faith. During
the morning, those who came were given the experience of a small group meeting;
in the afternoon, they explored all aspects of home visiting including the
purpose, preparations, what to take and what to say. At the end of the day, the
only regret was that there was not enough time for these valuable group
sessions.
The workshop was presented by Sheila Keefe, a member of the Portsmouth Diocesan
KIT team which now presents workshops in many different parts of the country.
Sheila said, “I am delighted to see such enthusiasm; this is the biggest
workshop we have presented and it is largely because of the support given to us
by our priests”. Although the priest is not encouraged to come to the small
group meetings, for fear of inhibiting returners, his support is absolutely
crucial in finding and forming the parish KIT team, in acting as its mentor and
guide and in being closely involved in guiding and reconciling Catholics in
their journey back to the Sacraments.
